A senior, technical, Ph.D.-level position to work in a multidisciplinary drug discovery team setting reporting to the team leader/director.
Responsible for assessing utility of drug candidates for the treatment of ocular diseases with emphasis in glaucoma, neuroprotection and other anterior segment diseases.
In-depth knowledge and experience in Ophthalmology and Visual Science, and a minimum of four years of postdoctoral experience in ophthalmic research with extensive experience in animal models of glaucoma, neuroprotection and/or other anterior segment diseases are required. Experience in vitro ocular models and/or industrial experience a plus.
Job Duties:
Ability to work independently and to perform well in a multi-disciplinary drug development team, to meet team and company goals.
Evaluate the utility of various compounds for glaucoma, neuroprotection, and various anterior segment diseases.
Design, conduct accurate, reproducible research studies, and report results which characterize efficacy and safety of new drug candidate compounds.
Develop state-of-the-art assay methods and techniques for assessing utility in treating diseases involving the anterior and posterior segments of the eye such as dry eye, glaucoma, and neuroprotection.
Generate study protocols and reports in a timely manner and maintain appropriate documentation of studies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Scientific literature search, statistics, Microsoft Office, and image analysis.
Observe lab safety procedures; act in strict compliance with regulatory guidelines for the use of hazardous materials. |

Skills:
|
Education: Ph.D. required in physiology, pharmacology, or Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
Experience: Minimum 4 years postdoctoral experience in glaucoma research; experience in the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
Special Skills: Experience with ophthalmic pharmaceuticals preferred. Demonstrated ability to train study personnel and study CRAs. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Special Skills: Laboratory animal handling and anesthesia; ophthalmic surgical skills, digital fundus camera (conventional and high speed), slit lamp, ophthalmoscope, IOP tonometry, electroretinography, conventional light microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and computerized image analysis.
Animal models of glaucoma. Retinal neuronal survival assessment. Experience with Microsoft Office programs, database, and statistics programs |
